At Bob Swope Ford, we pride ourselves on a wide variety of new and pre-owned Ford vehicles for the community in Bardstown and beyond. If you’re considering buying a Ford for the first time, you’re probably asking yourself a pretty basic question: are Fords good cars? We certainly think so, but you don’t have to take our word for it! Our team has assembled everything you need to know about Ford critical reviews, safety ratings, and more in the guide below. Check it out, then head to our inventory to see what we have available!
If you find yourself asking questions like, “Are Ford Fusions good cars?” and “Are Ford Escapes good cars?”, the first thing you should do is look at critical reviews. Car critics evaluate every part of a vehicle inside and out, and often carefully lay out all the pros and cons of a vehicle before coming to a final consensus on whether it’s worth buying or not. We’ve compiled some excerpts from Car and Driver, one of the foremost critical sources, on the latest Ford models. Be aware that some vehicles, like the Ford Fusion, are no longer made by Ford, so we’ve included their final model year:
2022 Ford Bronco: “The Ford Bronco rocks a nostalgia-inducing design along with both civil on-road driving manners and big-time trail tackling ability” / “The 2022 Bronco [is] the ultimate off-road SUV”
2020 Ford Fusion: “The 2020 Ford Fusion has tremendous versatility in a hotly contested segment” / “The Fusion pairs a comfortable ride with agile handling for an engaging driving experience.”
2022 Ford F-150: “With seven trims, three body styles, and two bed lengths, the F-150 can be tailored to anyone’s needs.”
2022 Ford Escape: “The 2022 Escape’s soft-road capability and carlike ride and handling can continue to serve on-road oriented drivers” / “The Escape comes standard with desirable driver-assistance features and can be outfitted with plentiful optional luxuries and convenience items.”
2022 Ford Explorer: “With three rows of seats and generous cargo space, the Explorer is versatile for buyers toting kids and all of their associated gear.”
Critical reviews are only half the story when it comes to the quality of Ford cars. We pride ourselves on vehicles that are safe, reliable, and easy to use on the Fort Knox roads. In that vein, let’s take a look at some of the top safety ratings for the current lineup of Ford vehicles. We’ll start with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which publishes a list of vehicles every year that are considered “Top Safety Picks,” the highest honor that the institute rewards. Here are the Ford vehicles that made it onto this year’s list:

The other major institution that rates vehicles for safety and reliability is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA. This is a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation which crash-tests vehicles and gives them a starred rating out of five. They haven’t published their 2022 findings yet, but here are the 2021 Ford vehicles that earned a perfect five-star crash-test rating:

Finally, we’ll look at Ford’s reliability ratings from RepairPal, which is a popular site that evaluates vehicles’ reliability based on surveys from drivers. These ratings are derived from the vehicle’s repair cost, the frequency that it must be brought in for service, and the probability that a repair will be major or severe. Here are the Ford vehicles that currently score a rating of four stars or higher:
