How do you know when it's time to check your brakes?
We've all heard the tell tale squeal of worn out brakes, but sometimes the signs can be more subtle. Modern brake pads are designed in such a way that when they are at the end of their life they should start making a squeaking noise. Unfortunately this is not always the case. Other signs that your brakes may be done for, include:
Squishy brake pedal when breaking.
If you hit the brake and aren't greeted back with a firm response, their may be an issue with your brake pads and it'd be a good idea to get them checked soon if not right away.
Shuddering steering wheel or brake pedal
If your car steering wheel or brake pedal bounces as the brake pedal is applied you may have either rough spots on your brake rotors or warped brake rotors.
What are the best Brake Pads?
I will admit we are a bit biased but at Bob Swope Ford we use Motorcarft brake pads and drums. We do this because of their Lifetime Brake Pad Guarantee* You have enough to worry about, replacing your brakes all the time shouldn't be one of them.
If you don't replace your brakes
Many people wonder what will happen if you don't replace your brakes in time. Although serious injury can occur if you vehicle doesn't have the necessary stopping power, but what is more likely is your rotors will be damaged when the pad is too worn away, which can lead to needing more than just a brake pad replacement.
